KYBELLA® is the first FDA approved permanent injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile. What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella® contains a naturally occurring molecule called deoxycholic acid. Its job in the body is to aid in digestion by breaking down fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella® destroys the fat cells. Once destroyed, the cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

What is recovery like?

Mild redness, swelling and warmth may be seen after treatment. This will diminish over the first 24 to 48 hours. Minor bruising may also occur and could take about a week to fade. There is no downtime required, so patients can return immediately to work or school and resume their normal exercise routine.

Will I experience any side effects?

The safety profile of KYBELLA® is well characterized. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects. Patients have experienced trouble swallowing and temporary nerve injury which can cause an uneven smile or weakness of facial muscles.

How long do the results last?

KYBELLA is a forever treatment because it destroys fat cells, so results can be long lasting. However, excessive weight gain can compromise the treatment’s outcome because fat cells that remain in your body can still enlarge.
